At some point, everyone experiences some kind of back pain. The key difference is that some people are better able to avoid most problems and bad habits that can lead to issues such as degenerative or bulging disc or sciatic nerve issues. Because of this, some individuals are able to avoid far more back pain than others. How is this possible? There are certain things that people can look for and avoid in their daily lives that typically cause back pain. Of course, proper posture and exercise is important, but for those who wish to be a little more careful, we’ve found some of the most common causes of back pain in individuals. As a leading Chiropractor in Arlington Tx, we encourage you to be sure to use this list alongside, instead of using it to replace, proper posture and exercise.

1. Lifting with your back

Anyone who does any kind of lifting on a regular basis should be aware of this one. One of the most common reasons that people hurt their backs and live with back pain for years is because they tried to lift heavy objects with the muscles in their back. Why is this bad? That’s way too much pressure for your back to handle. Your spine and back muscles are simply not designed to function that way. It is a much better idea to adopt the proper lifting technique used by professional lifters and trainers alike. Bend down with your knees, keep the thing you are lifting close to your body, keep your back straight and rigid, then lift with your abs and thighs. Even when you already have the object lifted, turn with your legs and not your back.

2. Too much sitting

The discs and padding within your spine thrives on movement. Remaining locked in place for too long can have dire consequences for your back, putting discs in serious risk of rupturing. As with most medical issues, making it a point to remain at least somewhat active will do your back a world of good.

3. Too much work

Running counter to our second common cause of back pain, putting too much stress on your back through physical labor or exaggerating the curve of your spine is not going to do you any favors. While it is true that getting too lazy could be problematic for your back, physical activity and stress need to be carefully monitored. Carelessness on it’s own could account for a separate category.
