Stretching Exercises Help Back Pain

Stretch Every Day
Performing stretching exercises every day can lessen the chances that you have a serious back injury while performing everyday activities. You don’t need to be a yogi or go to yoga classes, although it is recommended that you take gentle, light yoga classes regularly, to take 10 minutes every day to stretch out a little. Bend over at the waist and touch your toes ten times. Lift your arms over your head and “stretch up” as high as you can ten times. Keep your arms up and bend to the left and bend to the right ten times, then bend backward to stretch your frontal muscles. This series of gentle stretching exercises alone can alleviate back pain and help prevent back injuries.

Be Careful Working Around the Home
Homeowners usually spend the majority of their weekends “putting” around the house, cutting the grass, cleaning the gutters, raking leaves, gardening and so on. If you don’t stretch beforehand you run the risk of hurting your lower back as you bend over and lift the bag containing grass clippings, or raking up a pile of rocks in the garden.

Exercise Moderately
If you are thinking about starting an exercise program like running or jogging, it is important that you do so gradually. The worst thing you can do is to subscribe to the stupid motto of “no pain, no gain”. That thinking has injured more people and halted the physical fitness motivation of more Americans than anything else. Work out on a Monday and rest on a Tuesday. Go back to exercising on Wednesday and rest on Thursday. The resting days are as important as the workout days and if you workout too much you’ll probably hurt your back and quit the program.
